Rose du Moulin by Guerlain c1907

Rose du Moulin by Guerlain: created in 1907, a rose tinted pomade that was used to rouge the cheeks but could also be used on the lips.




It's whimsical name was a play on the name Moulin Rouge, and even the little pot has a small image of the Moulin Rouge's famous windmill. The little jars were made by Pochet et du Courval. The item was #600 in the Guerlain stock catalog.



It was originally contained in an emerald green glass pot with a matching glass lid, elegantly decorated with gilded enameling. The later editions from 1914 onward were clear glass, and instead of the hand enameled designs, it had a paper label encircling the middle, reproducing the earlier hand painted images.




Rose du Moulin came in several different shades for different skin colors, such as for brunettes (pour les brunes), blondes (pour les blondes). Also came in colors such as Mandarine, Cattleya, Tulipe, Lilas, Soleil Levant (sunrise), Medium, Iris, Scarlet, Rose Camellia and Tropical.
