Voilette de Madame c1901

Voilette de Madame: (Madam's Veil): Originally created as a wedding present to Jacques Guerlain's friends in 1901, who created Voilette de Madame as a counterpart to Mouchoir de Monsieur. The perfume was first released to the public in France in 1902 and in the USA in 1904.



Original Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? It is classified as a powdery, musky floral fougere fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: violet, geranium, bergamot and verbena
  • Heart notes: jasmine, rose, orange blossom, ylang ylang, ambergris, clove, sweet acacia, musk 
  • Base notes: orris, oakmoss, tonka bean

Reformulated Fragrance Composition:


So what does it smell like? Voilette de Madame is a chypre-fougere blend of iris, ylang-ylang, narcissus, violet, and sandalwood. The drydown has a prominent Guerlinade accord and an animalic base.
  • Top notes: violet, narcissus, geranium, neroli, cassia flower, bergamot
  • Heart notes:  lilac, ylang ylang, rose, jasmine, iris, orange blossom
  • Base notes: sandalwood, vanilla, orris, tonka bean, opoponax, civet, oakmoss

Bottles:


The perfume was sold in the Escargot "snail" flacon.







Fate of the Fragrance:


I am not sure when this was discontinued but it was still being sold in 1941.

Reformulated and reissued as a limited edition eau de toilette in 2005. Housed in a replica of the snail bottle. It is classified as a chypre-fougere fragrance for women.
  • Top notes: violet, narcissus, geranium, neroli, cassia flower, bergamot
  • Heart notes:  lilac, ylang ylang, rose, jasmine, iris, orange blossom
  • Base notes: sandalwood, vanilla, orris, tonka bean, opoponax, civet, oakmoss
