L'ABEILLE AUX AILES ARGENT REVE DE LUNE PARFUM:

Limited edition fragrance L'abeille Aux Ailes Argent Reve de Lune 30 ml Parfum tester. Batch code 2Q01 corresponds to 2012 .Reve de Lune: created in 2012, is simply a reissue of Jean-Paul Guerlain's Metallica, a limited edition Eau de Toilette from 2000 (subsequently renamed Metalys), reworked by Thierry Wasser to constitute Parfum concentration. The perfume was housed in a 245ml Baccarat "L'Abeille Aux Ailes Argent" flacon bottle features beautiful, hand applied silver leaf on the wings, only 57 numbered pieces are produced and sold worldwide, for $25,000 US dollars.

It is classified as a spicy oriental fragrance for women.

Flacon Tortue Parfum Exceptional Edition c2015

For the 2015 Holiday season, Guerlain issued a new limited edition luxury perfume bottle called the "Flacon Tortue Parfum Exceptional Edition." 

This year we are treated to a reissue of the exclusive Baccarat turtle bottle, first used in 1914 for the perfume Parfum des Champs Elysees. The front of the bottle is emblazoned with a gold foil label featuring the vintage style font for "Guerlain Paris" and familiar sun king image. Black and gold silk baudruchage is wound tightly around the neck and stopper of the bottle terminating in a wide swath of silk tassel held in place by the gold Guerlain G seal.

Housed inside this new edition is a special edition of the Le Parfum du 69 perfume. Only 47 numbered pieces will be available for sale. The exclusive flacon holding 60 ml of Parfum will retail for an astounding price of 9,500 €.

Le Bol de Savon

Le Bol de Savon, a shaving soap in a bowl is shown below. The piece most likely dates from 1920s-1950s. The lid features a sun with wavy rays. The "bowl" measures 7" in diameter and stands about 3.5" in height. The total weight is about 3 lbs. The soap itself is molded with "Bol de Guerlain Paris". The last photo is the underside of the lid.

In this 1926 advertisement for Guerlain's bath goods, you can see an image of the bol de savon to the right.

Guerlain Fragrances: Rare vs. Common

Often in ebay listings, I see sellers claiming some Guerlain perfumes are rare, when in the case of Shalimar, Mitsouko and Jicky, which are not actually rare, the most common of all Guerlain perfumes.

Shalimar 90th Anniversary Exceptional Edition Flacon c2015

This year Guerlain treats us to another exceptional collector's flacon just in time for the holidays. To celebrate the 90th anniversary of the birth of Shalimar, a gorgeous deep cobalt blue crystal flacon has been created by famed glass works Waltersperger. The flacon is adorned with a 22kt gilded branch which is attached around the neck of the bottle. Two blown glass birds, symbolizing the eternal love between Shah Jahan and Mumtaz Mahal, perched upon the branch are handmade by Maison Desrues and richly covered in silver, blue and gold enamel. The bottle holds an impressive 1.5 litres of Shalimar extrait. Only 17 of these limited edition flacons are available this year.

Vetiver des Indes

Vetiver des Indes. The fragrant roots of this grass were widely used to keep destructive insects from eating cashmere shawls, furs and other textiles.

In India, a mixture of vetiver (khus khus) and patchouli (pucha pat) was used to scent shawls and keep the insects from damaging the textiles. The fragrant blend was also produced by perfumer's wishing to imitate the scent.

In the past wealthy women used to have tiny sachets of oil of vetiver sewn into the linings of their expensive fur coats.

Ne M'Oubliez Pas c2015

Ne M'Oubliez Pas by Guerlain: will be launched around September 21, 2015. Created by Thierry Wasser as a limited edition fragrance for women. The name derives from one of Guerlain's earliest lipstick lines, created in 1870 and known as the first modern day lipstick sold in a tube.

Flacon Etruscan c1900

The Flacon Etruscan was created in the early 1900s to hold Lotion Vegetale. The cap was made up of gilded metal cast with a foliate motif. The bottle was made by Pochet et du Courval. The luxury edition had gilding on the shoulders and the base of the bottle. The classic bottle has no gilding, except on the stopper.

The bottle was made in three sizes:

• 80cc
• 90cc
• 250cc - 15cm tall

Some of the scents were: Heliotrope, Jicky, Chypre, Fleurs Ambrees, L'Ether Aromatique, Ultra Fresca, Violette, and others.

Faked Guerlain Perfume Bottle

I wanted to bring to your attention, a cleverly crafted fake Guerlain perfume bottle. While this may simply have been crafted by a hobbyist for their own benefit, it undoubtedly made it's way into the open market and was being offered for sale. A suspecting buyer had asked some questions to some of use on the IPBA members facebook group and we all chimed in with our opinions.

I for one immediately dismissed this as a fake bottle based on the sloppy baudruchage, the weird "label", the stopper, the overall look of the piece as a whole, as well as my own extensive knowledge on Guerlain's perfume bottles.

Let's talk about the baudruchage for a moment. On this bottle with see gold and white cotton baker's twine and red and gold sealing wax used to decoratively seal the bottle. We know that Guerlain did not use this sort of baudruchage cording - nor this type of sloppy sealing wax. Guerlain uses only the finest silk threads to finish the barbichage (bearding the silk threads), brossage (brushing the yarn into place), wax seal and signature Guerlain stamp - an art of bottling that the Dames de table craftswomen pass down from generation to generation, just like guildsmen.

The photos below illustrate the care that goes into Guerlain's baudruchage.

Ok, now back to the fake perfume bottle...the stopper. The stopper appears to be metal and embossed with an Art Nouveau floral pattern. While it is very pretty - Guerlain did not use this type of stopper.

The bottle shape itself. While the shape is similar to a bottle by Guerlain called the Flacon de Guerre (the wartime bottle), it is not exactly the same. The fake bottle features sharply sloping shoulders, while the flacon de guerre's shoulders have slight sloping and a ridge around the short neck of the bottle. Also the

Now let's get onto the label of the fake bottle. It does not follow any known form of an authentic Guerlain label. It is however most likely a header from a letter, advertisement, receipt or other sort of document. It is also from the 19th century as evidenced by the wording: "Guerlain Parfumeur Brevete de S.M. L'Imperatrice Des Cours de Russie, d`Allemagne et d 'Angleterre Paris Rue de la Paix ,15."

Veritable Moelle de Boeuf

To condition the hair, Guerlain created the Veritable Moelle de Boeuf, a pomade made up of beef marrow to promote hair growth.

"True Beef Marrow " porcelain cosmetic box decorated with grisaille representing oxen and golden highlights.  Diameter: 6.8 cm. 

$80,000 For Shalimar - Are You Kidding?

Ok, some ebayer has gone off the deep end here. They are asking $80,000 for this bottle of Shalimar Eau de Cologne, with the No. 90 label. A one litre Montre flacon.
